Unexpectedly good.

We received a Xmas gift card from family and never got around to using it until recently. Sorry, never been much a microbrew buy so I never just got around to checking this kind of place out. Mistake! Rock Bottom was very impressive in and out.
Service was par excellent! We had a trainer waitress for our night who had a "mentor" helping her and really did she need help?! Smart, quick and cheery, I think she passed her training with flying colors.
Food was very impressive as well, again maybe against the "low" and unfair expectations I had for this place but still! Very fresh and inventive! But NOT for the faint of heart (or high of cholesterol)! You are forewarned! :)
Still very impressive and the dark amber beer I had was on the spot. Good body, nice snap to it without being bitter. I maybe thought a bit more sweetness would have been expected but Oh Well. Drinkable to the end!
Worth a visit for sure, but do allow for some time at the gym afterwards. Your heart and your pants will thank you.

We were not acknowledged at our table for 15 minutes after we were seated. Plus they turned off the world cup final in lieu of 4 Wheeler racing.

Friday Night Prime Rib
By cambodianhooker, May 18, 2009

Decided to go to Rock Bottom on Friday night and I noticed they had a $12.99 prime rib special. The meal consisted of an 8 oz prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, and steamed veggies. For the price, it was pretty darned good. Definately not the best prime I have ever had but for $12.99 I couldn't argue. The meat was tender and juicy. My only complaint was the cut was a little fatty, which is probably why it's $12.99. They also are serving their Pink Robbon wheat beer right now which is a raspberry wheat beer. The first one went down smooth enough to garner a second one to be ordered.

One thing I've noticed about Rock Bottom which is annoying but I can understand why they do it is they ID everybody at the door and give you a stamp if you're going to drink. My guess is they must of got busted for serving underaged patrons a few months ago because they've been doing it since the beginning of the year.

Great West Side Micro's
By cambodianhooker, August 8, 2008

Rock Bottom is a great place to eat and drink in West Des Moines. They have a great selection of microbrews, including 5 or 6 that are always on tap and 2 to 3 more that are seasonal. The food is very good and is reasonably priced. I especially like the chipotle chicken pizza and the Mahi Tacos. I have never had a bad experience here. My only complaint, which is a very small one, is that they don't have satallite and thus, they don't carry the best sports on the TVs. Otherwise it's a great place.

Dissapointed

I was a pretty regular patron of Rock bottom for a long time but when i had gone back recently for a visit i was not at all impressed. I ordered the Ribs and Chicken and both came out incredibly dry, almost inedible. The service was appaling, almost bad enough for me to say something, which would be completely out of character. Sorry to say, that place has gone down hill.
