The night doesn’t have to end after a Des Moines Buccaneers hockey game. Here are three spots to hit up after a hard-hitting hockey match.
1. The Ridgemont
Find it: 7460 Hickman Road, Windsor Heights
The Ridgemont has consistently been a favorite post- game hangout for Buccaneers fans — seeing as how it’s within stumbling distance from the arena. But that’s not the only reason to appreciate this Windsor Heights hangout: Home games equate to cheap beer at the throwback bar, with $1 cans of Miller Lite, Coors Light, PBR and Bud Light offered until midnight.
2. Chicken Coop
Find it: 1960 Grand Ave., Suite 23, West Des Moines; and 12725 Meredith Drive, Urbandale
Few things go better with a post-game brew than chicken wings. And the Chicken Coop is showing its support for the hometown hockey team by offering up free wings at both metro locations. If the Buccaneers score three or more goals during any home game, a ticket stub will score you three free wings, which are offered in more than 10 varieties spanning from mild to “Wasabanero.”
Find it: 2301 Rocklyn Drive, Urbandale
There are few places where hockey is as popular and competitive as it is in Russia. In fact, Russia has won the 2008, 2009 and 2012 World Ice Hockey Championships. So it stands to reason that a night of hockey should end at this authentic Russian-American locale just down the street from the Buc’s arena. Irina’s specializes in Russian food, beer and, of course, vodka.
