Every week The Funny Bone, 560 S. Prairie View Drive, brings in nationally known stand-up comedians to perform at the West Des Moines bar. But it’s not the only place to see comedy in Des Moines. Here are three bars where you can get a chuckle for cheap (or even free).
1. Billy Joe’s Lounge, 1701 25th St., West Des Moines — Joel Fry hosts Billy Jokes open mic comedy starting at 8:30 p.m. every other Thursday. (The comedy is taking Thanksgiving off and returning Nov. 29). Free.
2. The Fremont, 1030 E. Ninth St. — Alex Carter and Brandon Ream co-host Super Secret open mic comedy at 9 p.m. every Monday. Free.
3. The House of Bricks, 525 E. Grand Ave. — The House of Bricks isn’t just a music venue. On the first, third and fifth Wednesday of every month (though the next one is this Tuesday) Dan Umthun hosts Underground Comedy open mics with sign-up at 8 p.m. and comedy starting at 8:30 p.m. Free.
