Where can you enjoy a drink while dominating with your friends at a game of trivia? There are several trivia options around Des Moines. Here are three of the better ones for showing off all the things years of TV watching and fantasy sports leagues have drilled into your brain.
1. Thursday Night Trivia, 8 p.m. Thursdays at The Keg Stand, 3530 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.
Teams compete in a weekly contest 8-10:30 p.m. every week. Questions are projected onto a screen, with members writing down their answer to turn into the host. There are bonus questions for prizes like T-shirts, key rings and drink coupons and the top three teams get a pitcher of beer. Every eight weeks the highest-ranked team wins a party at the bar. Purchase a $5 32-ounce mug and you get $2 domestic beers or $4 imports.
2. Trivia Night, 8 p.m. Wednesdays at Quinton’s Bar & Deli, 506 E. Grand Ave.
Team trivia with prizes that include free drinks and gift cards. The bar normally announces the topic for the first category in advance, with topics like Iowa trivia, the Big Lebowski, Star Wars and more. Specials include half off all wine and $3 23- ounce domestic “big girls.”
3. Team Trivia, 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Des Moines Social Club, 400 Walnut St.
Teams of two to six members compete through eight rounds of trivia each week. Questions often have linking hints, and rounds sometimes have themes. The weekly winner gets to pick the first category for the next week and monthly winners get a $50 Kirkwood Lounge gift certificate.
