Q: Thanks for makin’ me drive all the way to Ames. Just kidding. How long have you lived here?

I was adopted when I was 4 years old, so I was raised in Ames, but when I turned 18, I got the bug that most small-town adults get and I ran away to California for three years. I continued to move around until I was 22, then I settled back in Ames. I’ve been here ever since, and I’m 27. I will never leave Iowa. I realize this is where I’m supposed to be and I’m content with my journey.

Q: Do you come here often?

I love Okoboji. When I was pregnant, I literally came here, like, everyday for lunch.

Q: You front Ladysoal. What’s new with the band?

I signed a three-year contract with a management company in Texas, and we were recently featured in Curve magazine and on shewired.com and Gala magazine. We will also be in Revival magazine, which will come out the end of November. It feels really good to see that our hard work is finally paying off. We also recorded a new single, “You,” and we’ll start a promotional campaign for that in December.

Q: You have a very eclectic sense of style. Where do you like to shop?

I’m kind of like a cow when it comes to shopping. I like to graze and pick up two or three things, maybe six times a year, usually from online stores or good ol’ Target. Or sometimes I just go into my closet and cut up an old shirt or whatever and make it into something new. I’m drawn to laid-back clothing and I literally only own one pair of jeans and multiple tights that I wear with shorts or skirts. I also love cowl neck scarves and layers — lots and lots of layers.

Q: Your YouTube videos receive several thousand views. Why did you start making videos, and what are you currently ranting about?

I started because I was bored, to be honest. I have accumulated more than 1,200,000 views all together, and my highest- watched video has more than 400,000 views on it. If I’m bored and something crazy happens, I pick up my flip camera and make a video. You can watch them at youtube.com/ladysoal1, but I want to warn you that some of the videos are extremely abrasive.
