College football season is underway, and Drake University’s neighborhood sports bar and barbecue joint, Jethro’s, is proving its school spirit via alcohol.
We visited the campus-side locale to try the sugary sweet Drake Tea, a purple-hued drink that proved as sweet and refreshing as a Bulldog victory.
Bartender Anna Aiello, 30, started pouring a Drake Tea by selecting a large mason jar and filling it with ice. She then poured equal parts pomegranate schnapps, vodka, blue Curacao and grape-flavored Pucker. It’s then topped off with splashes of cranberry juice, sour mix and Sierra Mist.
Though it has as many flavors as a Long Island iced tea, the Drake version packs a lot less wallop, meaning one could finish the drink and still be able to stand and walk away from the bar after.
Jethro’s also serves two other Drake-named drinks: the Lady Bulldog and the Blue Bulldog. The three drinks are among 12 specialty libations that are served in mason jars. Aiello said on Saturdays the Drake-themed drinks make up about one out of every four sold.
That means you can show your Drake spirit in drink while watching any football game on television at the Drake location (or while just enjoying the patio).
