The scene: We got to Court Avenue Brewing Company — or CABCo, as it’s often lovingly referred to — around 5 p.m. for Sunday Funday and grabbed a booth in the bar area. A few minutes after sitting down we were greeted by a waitress, who set us up with two in-house beers: the oatmeal American red and a rye pale ale.
The space was roomy and comfortable without exuding a date-night-dining atmosphere, and the staff was quick with refills. Although the crowd felt a little thin when we arrived, the room was packed by 6 p.m. and there was a plate of wings on almost every table.
Why it’s the best night to go: CABCo takes great pride in its beer, so pairing a pint with the perfect bar food is crucial. That’s where CABCo wings come in. All day Sundays, the restaurant serves up superbly seasoned wings at 55 cents a pop (in intervals of five wings). Served with carrots, celery and a choice of blue cheese or ranch dipping sauce, the cajun-fused wings are accented by a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and they pack a satisfying crunch. To wash down the heat, CABCo offers rotating drink specials from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Better take advantage of the deal while you can, though. CABCo wings are usually only available as an appetizer at the much steeper price of $10.99.
When else to go: Since it’s in the heart of downtown, CABCo makes a great stop during a night out. On Friday and Saturday from 11 p.m. to midnight stop by for $5 pizzas — if you’re not much of a night owl, it offers the same deal from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Mondays. Other specials include $4 Moscow mules Fridays from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and half-price appetizers for happy hour Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
