The scene: Located in Beaverdale, the A.K. O'Connor's patio is a fantastic place to watch life go by while enjoying a shaded spot. Usually crowded with 20somethings in the evenings, A.K.'s is a cozy corner spot to kick back after work, or for a relaxed night on the town. They have live music on the weekends, too.
Round tables under large umbrellas were scattered around the patio, which was getting a fresh coat of paint when we visited. Still, it was pleasant to have a couple of drinks and people-watch on Beaver Avenue.
What we ordered: The bartender suggested the Patio Punch, a no-brainer for just $3.50. Made with raspberry and peach Schnapps, vodka, and cranberry and orange juices, it was shaken hard and arrived at our table cold, frothy and accompanied by a fat orange slice. This was the best drink I've had on a patio in a long time. Slightly sweet, very strong, very delicious.
Who we met: No one was outside when we stopped by, except the painter, who wasn't around much. Our waitress, who was new, stopped by our table to chat about what a beautiful day it was and how she liked her new job.
Why you should go: One, Beaverdale is a great neighborhood to hang out in on the weekends. Two, they have live music on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Three, the Patio Punch will shake off your work-week blues.
