Drinks on Deck: Dos Rios
Sangria rojo, Cóctel del Sol and the renowned guacamole with chips.

The scene: Maybe it's the soft drop lighting from several single bulbs, or the pop of color from the orange awnings, but something about Dos Rios' patio is alluring. Always packed on a nice day, the Fourth and Court spot is top-notch, as are the food and the drinks.

We stopped by on a Thursday after work, and grabbed the last available table. With floral-printed table clothes, wicker furniture, huge potted plants and splashes of bright color (those orange awnings), Dos Rios sprinkles its plush and cozy feel with a few urban touches, like concrete floors, ceilings and support beams.

What we ordered: It was hotter than Hades out, and although Dos Rios' yummy margaritas were only $4, I love their sangria. I ordered a tall glass of sangria rojo, made with a light-tasting red wine, berry liqueur and a splash of citrus. Topped with a fat orange slice and a cherry, the burgundy-colored drink was light and cool. My friend tried the Coctel del Sol, a specialty tequila cocktail made with gold tequila, triple sec, pineapple and lime juice and just enough cranberry juice to turn the drink's color a soft orange. The drink was good, but strong. Too many of these after work, and you may be calling in sick the next day. Both were $8. We couldn't pass up sharing the signature guacamole, and ordered a half order for $5.

Who we met: The patio was packed, but this isn't really a place to mix and mingle after work. Groups of friends and co-workers seemed to stay at their tables, but the atmosphere was still lively.

The view: We had a great view of the Saddlery Building (which houses Court Avenue Brewing Company), and the bright, colorful Surf Shack. Depending on your table, you can see the whole way down Court Avenue or Fourth Street.

Why you should go: It's no secret that Dos Rios has a fantastic patio. Mostly shaded and comfortable, it's a great place for innovative drinks and authentic Mexican food. If you want to chill on a patio and have your drinks brought to you instead of fighting your way through a busy bar, this is the place to do it.
