The scene: Legends American Grill is a sports-themed, casual restaurant with seven metro locations. We visited the Pleasant Hill locale, which opened in 2000, on a recent Thursday evening. The expansive patio with more than 30 tables overlooks Copper Creek Lake. We sat facing the lake, and we were surprised to be one of only three occupied tables.
What I ordered: After perusing an impressively large drink menu, I ordered a Raspberri Burst, a refreshing mix of Absolut Raspberri vodka, cranberry juice and pineapple juice for $5. It went down easy; a bit too easy, really, as I downed it a bit faster than I’d intended. When it came time for seconds, my arm didn’t need twisting. My drinking partner opted for an old stand-by, a Captain and Coke, which was delivered in a short glass for $5.
What I saw: Walkers, bikers, fishers and runners were taking advantage of cooler temps on the trail surrounding the 40-acre lake. We also watched a beaver swim laps, its nose poking out of the water as it meandered. Though we didn’t need shade on this day, we didn’t see any umbrellas or awnings, which would deter us from visiting on warmer days. We were also left in the dark as the sun set; tiki torches lining the patio railing remained unlit. Flood lights were finally turned on as we were leaving, long after sundown and after using light from our cellphones to read and sign our credit card slip.
Why you should go: A full menu of standard American fare, a large drink selection and peaceful views of Copper Creek Lake.
