Tap takeover events, where a bar dedicates every tap to a specific brewer, are becoming more common around town. That’s easier to do when a bar has a dozen taps, but harder when the bar has 100+ like El Bait Shop, 200 S.W. Second St. But the bar can still give up a good portion of its real estate to one brand, like its doing for the New Belgium Tap Invasion starting Aug. 28.
"We couldn't possibly do a tap takeover, and we wouldn't want to push out all the great beers we have if someone could," said El Bait Shop co-owner Jeff Bruning. "But we're going to give New Belgium as much space as we can."
More than 20 New Belgium brews will be served, ranging from the common Fat Tire to more obscure beers like Valentine’s Ale, Matt's Ale, Coco Mole and Tart Lychee, along with the seasonal Red Hoptober.
El Bait Shop has added more taps for this event, bringing the total for the bar up to 130. Ben Wantland will perform for the kickoff, which starts at 4 p.m.
