What it is: Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar is a sleek setting for sing-along — with the requisite raunchy lyric additions that make it a 21 and over establishment.
The West Glen space has a modern wooden exterior and faux alley look inside. Old-fashioned street lamps anchor either side of the stage and one side of the bar is made up with a mock fire escape — touches that reminded my friend of “Inside Out Club” from “A Night at the Rocksbury.”
Three bars make it easy to get served quickly and there’s plenty of seating space along the floor and in a more lounge-like upper level. But when the bar is crowded, there isn’t a place to stand where you don’t feel in the way. That makes dancing while you’re singing along to “Sweet Caroline” difficult.
What we tried: The specialty martini list boasts cocktails with names (“Liquid Viagra”) as bawdy as the song sets. I tried a “Plum Pearl Necklace,” $7, which was cold and refreshing and tasted almost like Gatorade Frost. They also have beer and mixed drinks, but the house specialty is the “Full Blue Moon,” a fishbowl filled with ice and a bright blue beverage decked out with blinking lights. At $20, it comes with several neon straws and is big enough for the whole bachelorette party to have a first round.
We arrived after dinner, but personal pizzas stood out on quite a few tables.
Why you should go: On the first official night open, the place was packed with groups of well-heeled professionals looking to have a good time. Unlike at Grand Piano Bistro, drums round out the sound on stage and the sexual innuendos a little more prevalent. Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar is set up as a place to be seen having a good time — just don't forget to slip a little cash in with your request.
