Peggy's Tavern, 3020 Forest Ave.
Peggy's is normally populated by Drake students (especially those that live a short walk away on 34th/Greek street) but at Relays time the bar puts up a tent and welcomes hundreds of alumni back.
West End Lounge, 2309 Forest Ave.
West End is party central for Drake students during Relays and the party is sure to extend out into the patio behind the building. Alums may want to revisit their old haunt, others may not.
University Library Café, 3506 University Ave.
The other "library" on campus is a small bar well known for its nachos, burgers and quirky drinks. It's a little farther away from the stadium than other bars, but worth a stop.
The Dublin Irish Pub, 2307 University Ave.
This new bar (where Hairy Marys used to be) will serve blue beer and have live music shows Thursday through Saturday.
DuBay's, 1229 25th St.
If you have family in town, take them here for an upscale dinner or weekend brunch. The bar also serves hurricanes and has happy hour specials.
Frank's Pizza, 2314 University Ave. Pizza here is simple (choose from four signature pizzas) and high quality. Stop by for lunch or dinner with a glass of wine or beer.
Jethro's BBQ, 3110 Forest Ave.
This Beverly Hillbillies-themed restaurant just opened in time to host Relays patrons inside for barbecue sandwiches and outside on the patio for drinks.
