Last Friday we sent the Metromix Singles Crew to check out the singles scene downtown. Hessen Haus, Kamodo Klub, Liars Club and Fong's Pizza were all on the schedule. We issued a few challenges to the crew to complete: Drink a boot with some strangers at Hessen Haus, dance with a stranger at some point during the night, and initiate a conversation through the mirrors at Liars Club. Here's how the evening went down.

Each crew member rated the event on a scale of 1-10 based on how good the bar was for meeting potential dates. Here are some highlights:

- Hessen Haus

Jocelyn: A lot of fun, very busy, we actually didn't get a table at first and were going to stand and do the boot. But we hovered over a table of married people who were getting ready to leave, and they ended up sharing the table with us. Tried to get single people to join us, but there were no single people. Everyone was married, so that didn't help their rating. Score: 4 out of 10

Dylan: Hessen was fun and we invited a group of women over to do the boot with us. It's not a typical place that you would expect people to be in the hunt for dates. It is a good place for conversations and to obviously enjoy the boot. Score: 8 out of 10

Brandon: We started the first boot standing up. I missed most of the second boot because I was trying to find some singles to come drink with us. That mission failed horribly. I had a good time talking to people, but the singles scene was not cool. Score: 1 (but a 6 for fun) out of 10

Others' scores: Amy: 5. Jake: 7 out of 10

Group total: 25 out of 50

Challenge results: Singles were slim pickings, so the group ended up inviting some married people over to share a boot.

Kamodo Klub

Amy: Not a lot of people there, and no one was very friendly or open to meeting new people. We didn't spend a lot of time there, but we all did hit up the dance floor. Score: 2 out of 10

Brandon: Not impressed across the board. I have been to better clubs that are more fun and have less stupid rules. You can't wear sunglasses? Really? Score: 2 out of 10

Jake: Everyone there was in their own groups and not really my type of crowd. I think it would be hard for someone single looking for a good date to pull anything worth while out of there. Score: 2 out of 10

Others' scores: Jocelyn: 4. Dylan: 3 out of 10.

Group total: 13 out of 50.

Challenge results: Amy danced with a man who was "tearing up the dance floor by himself."

Liars Club

Jocelyn: Wasn't very busy when we were there, but it was still fun. The best place to meet singles, by far. I danced with a couple of guys there. People were definitely friendlier and ready to mingle. Score: 8 out of 10

Dylan: We definitely got our dance on here and had a good time. If a pretty big bar and a packed dance floor is what you're looking for, I would say Liars Club would be your place. The music is blaring so it's not the best place to get to know someone or have a conversation. Score: 8 out of 10

Amy: It was slow. We spent most of our time there on the dance floor. Score: 8 out of 10

Jake: Liars wasn't as busy as it has been, but it seems to be a place where tons of singles hang out. It has an inviting dance floor for those who are willing, with a cool floor plan. I think Liars would be the best place to meet someone single and maybe take them to the other bars. Score: 8 out of 10

Brandon's score: 7 out of 10

Group total: 39 out of 50

Challenge results: Jocelyn danced with a couple guys and tried to initiate a conversation through the mirrors - it didn't work out. Dylan didn't go to the bathroom while he was there, so no conversation for him. Amy tried striking up a conversation, but no one was in the men's room at the time. Brandon did start a conversation and had someone wave at him. Jake thought he had started a conversation; it turned out to be a reflection.

Fong's Pizza

Jocelyn: This place is awesome. They have fun drinks served in funky bowls/mugs that are great for sharing. The crowd was fun, the staff was super-friendly, and I like the atmosphere. Perfect place to end the night. Score: 10 out of 10

Dylan: Fong's is another place that is really laid-back and is a great place to grab a bite to eat and to have good conversations. Again, it's not somewhere you would expect to go and try to pick up a date. Score: 8 out of 10

Amy: We mingled with others the most here. They have fun themed drinks that are meant to be shared. Score: 10 out of 10

Brandon: I had never heard of Fong's before Friday night. I probably had the most fun of the night at Fong's. The helmets were pretty kick-ass, the pizza was really good, and the Volcano was decent as well. I think the only single person was the waitress. She was awesome, but one single person does not get you a good grade. Score: 4 (but a 9 for fun) out of 10

Jake's score: 8 out of 10

Group total: 40 out of 50

Challenge results: Brandon completed the dancing challenge when the group went to 101 Lounge after the Singles Crew destinations.
