THE LOOK
Halo, formerly called Luxx, has the feel of an upscale New York City or Los Angeles club. It's dark inside, with lights underneath the clear glass shelves behind the bar and colored glass lanterns above it. The bar itself is black marble and stainless steel. People can sit at bar tables or move to the dance floor. Between the stage, seating, VIP section and dance floor, there's still quite a bit of space.
THE CROWD
When I went on a Wednesday night, people were just starting to scatter in for the live music. On weekends, Halo has go-go dancers, DJs and house music. Owner Gino Risola estimated between 300 and 400 people attended the June 14 grand opening. With a cover charge and pricier drinks after 11 p.m. and bottle service, Halo's crowd should have a little bit more money to spend.
THE TWO DRINKS
Bartender Matt Adey made me two summery drinks. For the first, the "State Fair Lemonade," Adey combined a handful of sugar packets, lemonade, vodka and squeezed lemons. It wasn't as over-the-top sweet as I expected. Adey made me a "Sunkist" as my second drink. It had an orange flavor, with a hint of Red Bull. Both were $4.
NEXT DOOR
Attached to Halo is a smaller bar, Rehab. Sports fans and those not so into dancing will be more comfortable in this laid-back atmosphere: wood paneling and Christmas lights, TVs and video games. Rehab is open daily 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Rehab never charges a cover.
THE VERDICT
The perfect scene for ladies to show off their favorite shiny heels and dance to club music. If their boyfriends aren't so interested, they can hang out next door at Rehab and watch the game. The single crowd can meet someone at either bar.
