The look: Water cooler? Check. Board room? To your right. Copy machine? That's next to the bar. Deer head? The Office has one of those, too. And foosball, pool, Silver Strike, six TVs, and a golf hole out back. Let's just say we're not in the Wells Fargo building. The bar itself has some pretty classy touches, with granite counters and dark wood, but it's definitely a stress-free zone.
The crowd: We didn't run into Pam and Jim or Dwight, Creed or Oscar, but we did meet some laid-back regulars who said since the bar changed hands back in December (it used to be Tanner's), they've bumped up their attendance from one day a week to six. Ditch the white collar and ID badge in your car- there's no dress code here. T-shirt-clad Tim Sones said the regulars started putting in overtime at The Office because owner Todd Mulhern lets them try new things, like bringing a grill to cook ribs, brats and even catfish they caught themselves for dinner. They also put in a hole of golf (par 2, but you get points for smacking it into the forest) in the back parking lot, and a note on a white board of specials says you can take a swing if you spend at least $10.
The two drinks: Mulhern, a total character who operates under the name "Batman Enterprises" (he showed us his checkbook to prove it), poured us two fruit-flavored but strong drinks: a grape bomb, which tastes like a very adult, liquified Jolly Rancher ($5), and a "strawberry shortcake" - a creamy shot that wasn't too harsh ($3.50). When we asked Mulhern what as in the second shot, he told us he "doesn't kiss and tell."
The grub: There were ribs on the grill, but they were still cooking when we finished our hole of golf and headed home. If you ask nicely, you and your drinking colleagues might be able to fire up some hot dogs.
The verdict: This might be the one "office" in town you could get away with photocopying your butt. Bring your company's Kevin and let loose.
