The look: The decor of this new Windsor Heights hangout takes some inspiration from the 1980s, with movie posters and the bar name written in fun '80s fonts on the walls. However, owners Sarah Cattoor and Ryan Greening were careful not to overdo the theme. Multiple TVs give sports fans options, plus one of them is dedicated to '80s movies and TV shows.
The crowd: As Cattoor pointed out, not only does the bar appeal to those who grew up in the '80s, but also to those parents who raised kids during the '80s. Cattoor said some regulars from Ebenezer Frog's (the former bar at the location) still hang out there. Weekdays include an after-work crowd coming in for happy hour specials (similar to those found at Cattoor's other bar, Cattoors on Grand), while weekend nights bring in younger, bar-hopping drinkers.
The two drinks: I was served up two '80s-inspired shots. The first was a Pop Rocks, which is simply Three Olives Vodka with some Pop Rocks, which can be taken before or after the vodka. I was told to do a "half and half," which gave me the initial extreme pop with the shot, and an after-pop by finishing off with the candy. The second shot was a Long Duk Dong, a tasty orange-flavored bomb.
The Ridgemont serves many other '80s-themed shots, like the Chuck Norris, Donkey Kong, Smurfette and Space Ball. And I couldn't pass up some of the '80s-style canned beer offered at the bar.
The grub: No food, though frozen pizzas may be offered in the future. Cattoor said visitors are welcome to bring in outside food, too.
The verdict: This is a great place to reminisce about the wonderful '80s, but it is not overdone in a way that you feel like you need to arrive in tube socks and big hair. But you certainly could. Once '80s talk begins of course, it's hard not to start quoting movies, saying "wicked awesome" and playing your favorite hair bands on the jukebox.
