Wellman’s Pub, 2920 Ingersoll Ave.; Wellman’s Pub & Rooftop, 597 Market St., West Des Moines
Though they share the same name, Wellman’s two locations are polar opposite of one another. Head to Ingersoll Avenue, to the original Wellman’s, and hobnob with Roosevelt grads and neighborhood regulars in the old bar with a patio overlooking the busy street. It’s a jeans-and-T-shirt kind of place, where everybody knows your name. Visit Wellman’s Pub & Rooftop in the Village of Ponderosa in West Des Moines and enjoy a cocktail at the sleek bar, or on the rooftop patio. The newer, dressier Wellman’s features a live DJ, black-tufted booths, and plenty of flatscreens for game watching or music videos. The two locations offer something for everyone, and earned them a spot in our top 10 bars in Des Moines.
