The Royal Mile: User Reviews
The Royal Mile

My friends and I love going to The Royal Mile. Its one of my favorite patios in the summer. Im generally a bud light girl, but I love tasting some of the fancy and cider beer at the Mile. I love the British Pub atmosphere-authentic and very laid back. Not only do they have a great booze selection, but the food is great too. I cant say they have any great light choices, but I suppose that isnt exactly what British food is know for! If your a sandwich lover like myself-try the "Earl of Sandwich"-its a work of art!

Is in 100% authentic? Not exactly, but its as close to a real British pub that your going to get in Des Moines. The atmosphere is dark and cozy like the real thing-and the menu the same way. Try the "Earl of Sandwich", but make sure your really hungry because its mammoth! Their patio is one of my favorite in Des Moines! Its nestled between the bar and the neighboring Java' Joes for a courtyard feel. The Red Monk operates as a separate bar on the second floor, offering top shelf selections. No matter how packed it becomes, you can always find a on the main floor, upstairs, along the bar or outside on the patio.

Though it may not be 100% authentic, it's got the unpretentiousness of a true British pub. I've been to several others here in the Midwest that, quite frankly, were trying a bit too hard. The Royal Mile, on the otherhand, reminds me very much of the pubs I've visited whilst touring Scotland and England over the last several years. In fact, the samely named pub I visited but a few months back on Edinburgh's Royal Mile was very similar to this. Only the Des Moines haunt has way better food. Only thing it's missing is a fruit machine and Kopparberg cider!

Royal Mile is a better pub than club. A great place to have a pint for lunch.

We've been to the Royal Mile four or five times and we've always liked their food, prices and service. It's probably even better now that there's a no smoking ban. It's an uncomplicated restaurant with a small menue, but with great value.

The mile is amazing! I love this bar. The best beers anywhere in DSM!!!!!
Their Fish & Chips are good! I like to go on Sundays early afternoon to sit on the patio, eat & drink a good Belgium beer.

I've been coming here for years & it just got better (smoke free as of July 1st). They have great beers, a cool decore, & they make english food taste good. This place can get really busy so its nice to know the bartenders too. A cool patio (its shaded which is nice during the hot summer especially during the Sat am Farmers Market). There is a related small bar upstairs, the Red Monk (Belgium bar) and the Vaudeville Mews is across from the outdoor patio.... Great location & vibe as well....
