Hessen Haus: User Reviews
Hessen Haus
101 Fourth St. - Des Moines515-288-2520
Hessen Haus is usually always a great time. I havent yet eaten there, but I love stopping by when going out downtown. My favorite part about the bar is their beautiful patio! Definitely make a point to stop by Hessen Haus in the summer so you can sit outside and enjoy downtown Des Moines. The boot is such a blast with a group of friends! My only real complaint is the face that the bar is long and narrow-so when it gets very crowded, I usually tend to leave and find another spot.

Hessen Haus is a really good place to find a nice meal, a huge stein of beer, and some good times; all for a really excellent price that won't break the bank. Their menu is comprised mainly of german and german inspired dishes with a few standard items to please the person who might have gotten dragged their by his buddies. Oh, and don't be afraid to go LARGE on the dinks, the larger you go the better the DEAL!
There is one downside though. If it's a weekend, you'll need to get their early to grab any sort of seating and as the night rolls on it often times turns from feeling like a German bar into a crowded subway car as you are squashed shoulder to shoulder with the people around you.
