If you havent been to the Alpine, you must, must go-just to experience this classic dive bar. Visiting the Alpine is like listening to to a grandparent wisely talk about their youth-an appreciated step back into time when life was simpler. The music comes from a great jukebox and the bartender is full of quirky stories. It might not be a bustling hot spot, but its been full every time I have been and Des Moines is lucky to still have a few spots like this.

This place has everything required to be a great neighborhood dive bar. Cheap strong drinks-check. Kickass jukebox (not internet type)-check. Mafia booth seating-check. Run into just about every type of drinker-check. A true classic!
