Terrible Experience

I've had the opportunity to visit different places across the country. The staff of this bar are absolutely terrible. High cost of drinks, not worth it. Bouncer are thugs. I'd feel better going into a place in south Chicago. There are a lot better bars in Des Moines than to waste your time here.

18 and up party bar

I use to really love going to this bar and would have considered myself a regular....but the past couple months it has turned into mickey's irish pub 18+ party bar. I took 5 of my employees there a few Mondays ago (35+ year old ladies)...They were all worried about going downtown because they are 'too old' ...I talk them into it anyways because I was there all the time and I knew they would not feel that way when they got there...I was very embarassed that a bunch of obviously underage girls were taking BODY SHOTS of each other laying on the bar inside, acting completely out of control half the time we were there...I felt like an idiot...they were uncomfortable wanting to leave....it was ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, I like to party, rage, be crazy probably more than the average person....but really?? Last time I had checked I wasn't at 101 lounge or the liars club...or the lumber yard for that matter.

Juice Magazine couldn't have put it any better! It is so great to see the major improvements to Court Avenue lately. With the Court Center 4 years ago, then Johnny's a couple years ago...and now the Mickey's Patio! We went to Mickey's last weekend, and despite the crowds, were able to get quick service . Our drinks were priced exactly the same as many other bars downtown, so that was nice. I guess they charge a small cover ($2 or $3) during the live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays only. But, that goes to pay for the band and sound equipment and such. It reminds me of the sticker I saw "Support Nightlife, Pay the Damn Cover". nbd. Anyway, the place looks SO GOOD! My wife said it reminds her of a bar on a beach at a resort. The planters outside are similar to those at Centro or Dos Rios, nice touch. The band was great, and the drinks were delicious and cold. The employees were extremely helpful and polite, and the service was great. All in all, I applaud Mickey's for finally cleaning that corner up and bringing this to downtown. GREAT JOB!

Mickey's Irish Pub outside is awful! I went to try out their outdoor patio recently, seeing as the weather was wonderful, however the service was HORRIBLE. First, there was a $3 cover, which didn't bother me a lot, but I at least expected good service. I asked the waitress for a drink recommendation and took her advice and said we would have that. She brought us our 4 drinks, PLUS ONE FOR HERSELF! She continued to say, "Thanks for the drink!" Next I asked for our bill and that we would like to close our tab. Here is where it gets terrible. She brings me my tab $40.50 for 4 drinks...oh ya plus the one she charged to us that she drank. I refused to pay that amount because I knew it was to be around $20 instead. She apologized and said she would be right back, 20 minutes later she was back, but brought me the WRONG card and tab. So she had to go back again. Finally third time around she brought me the right card, with the right tab and the correct total. From the time I said I want to close my tab until I actually did, this took AN HOUR. Literally a FULL HOUR. It wasn't even that busy! When I got home I checked my bank statement to see that I did not get charged twice once for the $40 and once again for the $20, and SURE ENOUGH I DID!! I was charged $60 for 4 drinks. Even if it is one of the most popular places around downtown I will NOT be returning there, and suggest you don't either.
