Won't return...

Three friends and I went to Wellman's to have some appetizers and a few drinks after work. We had ordered multiple drinks over the next few hours and were just talking, when the waitress came over and started clearing off the entire table. After picking up all of our glasses, she goes, "Oh, were you not done?" I've never felt more pushed out of a restaurant/bar. She evidently wanted new customers and more tips, so getting rid of us was her way to do it.

None of us will be returning.

Unfortunate customer experience at Wellman's Pub - Ingersoll
By hawkeyemoore, April 7, 2011

We took the family for a early Saturday dinner at the Wellman's on Ingersoll about a month ago. We used a coupon form Restaurants.com but was double tipped on the final bill.

When I called and explained that we were overcharged on the final bank debit the female manager gave me an excuse about how we weren't charged incorrectly because the tip wasn't included on the original receipt since we used the restaurants.com voucher, which was incorrect.

I asked her to please provide a copy of the original invoiced receipt, since my credit card receipt showed the correct amount, to confirm. She answered that since the transaction was over two weeks old that she wasn't sure she could do anything about it.

She never followed up with me as she said she would after our last conversation. It was only $7 I was disputing so I think she basically felt like it wasn't important to resolve my concern. She was never rude, just basically indifferent.

I gave up trying after multiple phone conversations with her. I didn't want to waste any more of my time trying to work with someone who obviously could have cared less about my request. I rarely leave poor reviews but the manager's lack of concern prompts me to do so. Wellman's simply won't be receiving my business anymore.

We went to Wellman's on a slow Friday night. We work in the service industry and appreciated our servers who were working without the usual motivation of a big crowd so we tipped well. Nevertheless at the end of the night, the bartenders went out of their way to call us out for not tipping, which, obviously was not true. i have never been more offended by a service staff, and i will never step foot in the establishment again. i am not a first timer, i live one block away and frequent the bar regularly, but i will not only never step foot in the bar, i will actively lobby against Wellman's. Nice work.

Great Patio

Wellmans is a great neighborhood fixture. Its a place I cant go without seeing at least a few people I know. It tends to get a bit too crowded at times, but the staff is really friendly so its not always a turn off if you can be patient at the bar. The patio is definitely the best part about the place. Its huge, with a separate bar and tv's . A perfect spot for some drinks in the warmer months.

Strike One...

Went last night (popular wing night) and was disappointed. The bar wasn't staffed for a special pricing event and although we were there for a previously booked party, our group received no additional service. In fact, we had to go to the bar to get drinks. When a waitress did come to our table, we had to repeatedly provide last names and what we each had ordered. Take notes! I've not been to Wellman's since the new ownership and not sure I have plans to go back.

Chick's Bar
By openice, July 13, 2009

Overall rating:

If you're looking for chicks then Wellman's is a good place to go on Ingersoll.
Beer is cold but not ice-cold. A lot of people on Friday and Saturday nights so it's harder to get your server's attention. If you're into meeting friendly strangers than this is a good place. Patio is really nice, safe, never seen fights there. Food's good. I wish there were more pool tables. I don't mind seeing chicks in mini-skirts but it's kinda distracting when you're shootin pool, got a little $ on the game and some chick stands right by the pocket you want and just stares -- maybe it's a setup or just a little practical joke . ) Good fun I just wish the beer was colder.

Where are the CUBS???
By cbgolf01, July 1, 2009

This is a bar that claims to be a Cubs bar. They have specials during Cubs games; they cover their walls with Cubs paraphenalia; they even sell shirts with Wellmans on the front and Go Cubs Go on the back!!! However, as someone who watches every Cubs game, there has never been a time that I have gone in there that I didn't have to ask to put the game on!!! Their staff is completely clueless and, of course, there is never a manager on duty. It is an absolute joke!! Last time I was in there, they had WNBA and America's Got Talent on their big screens as the Cubs game was in the 8th inning. The bartender claimed the Cubs weren't playing........Go to Jethro's if you really want a Cubs bar!

One of my favorites

To me Wellmans is like a trusted old friend. As a Dowling high school graduate, it really is one of those places that I cant go to without running into people from the classes below and above me for like 5 years. If I dont feel like seeing people, I dont go-but I can always count on Wellmans for a good time! You can find it overflowing with Roosevelt and Dowing alums around the holidays. The patio is great, especially since they have added another bar and flat screen TV out there. There is also a fair number of video games, a pool table, darts and a jukebox. Dont forget about Wellmans during the day either! Their food is above average for sports bar fare, and they have an extensive bloody mary bar.

Great patio, average bar.
By Hojo, April 7, 2009

Went there last night to watch the Cubs' opening game. For a bar that touts itself as a Cubs bar (does it? Maybe that's just my impression), the game was not on (no satellite?!). Very confusing. Not necessarily the best place to watch a game, unless you are posted up at the bar or if they have their projector down. They could definitely use some more TVs in side. The patio, however, is awesome. Wings are hit or miss - when they are good, they are pretty good, but it's a gamble. Drink specials are generally good, but it's often difficult to find a server or to get a drink at the bar.
