For whatever reason, drinking and sending a puck gliding down a slick table go together perfectly. Here’s where to play in Des Moines.
Bars with shuffleboard

Joe's Pub
5500 Merle Hay Road -
Johnston
This is where we got a lesson from a 62-year old shuffleboard shark.
Zimm's Food and Spirits
3124 Ingersoll Ave. -
Des Moines
Zimm's is known for attracting lots of Des Moines Roosevelt graduates. Its patio overlooks Ingersoll Avenue and is popular on Sunday nights in the summer. Zimm's has has one of just a handful of shuffleboard tables in Des Moines. Go there on Monday nights for the many game-night drink specials, including free beer at halftime.
Johnny's Hall of Fame
302 Court Ave. -
Des Moines
One of Des Moines' classic sports bars, Johnny's recently got a facelift. The bar is packed with TVs, giving you a choice of just about any televised game.
The Game
3719 86th St. - UrbandaleThe Game was the first nonsmoking sports bar in the Des Moines area and upholds that reputation with a clean and friendly atmosphere. Come any time of the year to enjoy the best games on TV and the perfect drink to accompany it. Located in the strip mall on 86th Street across the street from the Library, The Game is a great place to catch the game, and be sure to grab a quick meal while you are there, too.
Croz Nest
2139 S. Ankeny Blvd. - AnkenyCroz Nest reopened in late August after weeks of remodeling. The owners repainted the place, raised parts of the ceiling, and put in a new dance floor. The bar - call it a "dive bar" if you must - sits next to an automotive service business and a shop that rents U-Hauls. So basically, if you want to, you can order a pitcher while you get your oil changed, then you can rent a U-Haul to drive a barload of drunks home ... all within 100 feet. Croz Nest is a drinking establishment for the masses. It's not a true dive bar because the place is extremely well-kept, with clean pool tables and new video games. And it's not a sports bar either. They'll show the game on the enormous projection TV up front, but won't overwhelm you with sports, even on game days. Country music might be blaring overhead, or it might be AC/DC or Bob Seger - it's that kind of place.
Sinners & Saints
216 Court Ave. - Des MoinesSinners & Saints took over the old A.K. OConnors location, but it has a pretty different feel. Dark walls and metallic tables give it an industrial look. One wall sports the complete hood of a Trans Am, and autographed guitars, posters and albums line the other walls. The items are from co-owner Bill Mahons private collection and includes pieces from The Black Crowes, Hinder and Bruce Springsteen. There is also a wall of unsigned guitars for future autographs, which should come in handy with Peoples Court upstairs. Unlike A.K.s, Sinners & Saints has a door that opens out on to Third St., meaning you dont have to enter the building anymore to find the bar.

A.K.'s in West Des Moines has it too. This list seems incomplete. Are you only highlighting your advertisers?? C'mon, Juice!
