Gin martini
For a drink to be truly manly it pretty much needs to be brown or clear. It can be on the rocks, it can be straight up. It can have a garnish (no umbrellas!), but once you start disguising the liquor with mixers you might as well just order a cosmo.
We stopped by the very manly 801 Steak and Chophouse at 801 Grand Ave. — the kind of place where you’ll see modern day Don Drapers, political candidates and corporate big wigs ordering big steaks and stiff drinks — to get some recommendations from general manager Damon Murphy. After pointing us to an assortment of single-malt scotches, we asked for some options with more than one ingredient.

Gin martini: A simple drink to make, especially if you make yours with no vermouth like 801 does. Chill your gin with some vigorous shaking and then pour into a martini glass. No garnish, no olives. Just simple, chilled perfection. $9.
