Fresh View: Central Iowa Wineries
While Rosey Acres Winery was actually named for a beloved dog, I thought the name was a reference to the beautiful roses growing near the vines. As it turns out, it was an ancient tradition to plant roses near the vines because they are sensitive to the afflictions that can hurt the vines. Growers would watch the roses, and if they could tell they were suffering, they could take steps to protect the grapes. Rosey Acres likes the idea of the tradition, and it doesn't hurt that the roses are great to look at.
