Sangria
By Caitlin Thornton
Special to Metromix
Taking an afternoon siesta isn’t the only reason we should be jealous of the Spaniards. They’ve perfected something that’s considered a summertime indulgence in the U.S. — fruity, deceivingly refreshing sangria.
The perfect-for-the-porch drink is made different everywhere but commonly consists of red or white wine, sliced fruit, a little bit of hard alcohol, and carbonated drink.
We scoured the town and found sangria as a staple in a few Mexican restaurants, a hidden gem at a hip café, and a way for one restaurant to recycle their leftover wine. Ranging from sugary-sweet to drunkard-worthy strong, here’s sangria done five ways at five different places — a fresh blend served up each day this week.
