It seems like every day Des Moines is making some new list ranking us as one of the best places in the country for something.
Things really kicked into high gear last summer when Forbes named Des Moines the No. 1
city for young professionals. That was pretty awesome, but it also started to seem like Forbes might have something of a crush on us. In December, they ranked Des Moines as the No. 3 city for jobs for 2012, then in February they bumped us up to No. 2. In June they called us the fourth best
city for business and careers. They also called Beaverdale one of “America’s Prettiest Neighborhoods.”
We’re flattered, Forbes, but we were kinda hoping Yahoo Finance would ask us to the prom.
Business Journals listed us as No. 10 for most educated young workforce. Kiplinger named us the best city for families. Policom said we had the No. 2
strongest local economy. Country Living and Mother Nature Network are both crazy about the Des Moines Farmers Market. Midwest Living even put Adventureland on their list of favorite Midwest Amusement Parks.
Clearly these people are on to something. Des Moines is the belle of the ball. Soon national magazines and websites are going to be getting into fistfights over who can put us on their list.
Settle down, media, there’s enough Des Moines for all of you.
