Where to party for St. Paddy's
Eric Simmerman and Justine Year show off their St. Patrick's Day spirit during the parade in downtown Des Moines. This year's parade begins at noon Saturday and runs along Grand Avenue.

Dublin Bay

Find it: 320 S. 16th St., Ames

When: Opening at 11 a.m. Saturday, 6 a.m. Sunday

Entertainment: Saturday the restaurant will host a benefit for Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance with live music, an auction including a signed basket­ball from the Iowa State men’s basketball team. Irish dancers perform at 5 p.m., and Brian Congdon performs from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Catch Kelly’s Clan, Irish dancers, bag pipers and Decoy.

Will there be green beer? Yes

Food: Irish breakfast served 6-10 a.m. Sunday. The full Irish food menu available 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

Celebration of Irish culture through music, stories and poetry

Entertainment: The Foy Irish Dancers will perform, followed by Four Shillings, an instrumentalist duo. There will be Irish story­telling during intermission.

Entertainment: Decoy, Lesson 7, Pie in the Sky and The LA Riots will play Saturday afternoon. Shock G from Digital Under­ground, Rob Base and Tone Loc perform Saturday night. Local bands will play Sunday during the fish fry.

Find it: The race begins and ends at Principal Park, 1 Line Drive

When: Saturday. The women start at 9 a.m. The men start 51/2 minutes later. If a woman wins, all the female racers receive a free drink at the finish. If a man wins, all the male racers earn a free drink.

What: The Royal Mile’s annual Green Beer After Party

Find it: On Fourth Street, from Walnut Street to Court Avenue

When: 10:30 a.m.–midnight

Entertainment: Bag pipers will perform at noon Saturday, and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

Drink specials: The Green Shenanigan, a vodka-based cocktail. Outside find specials on Guinness, Coors Light, Smithwick’s and Boulevard.

Find it: The parade will begin at Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and will con­tinue north on 15th Street to Grand Avenue and then turn east to Eighth Street, before ending at Eighth Street and Grand Avenue.

When: Begins at noon Saturday

Entertainment: The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of Central Iowa will hold a reception at the Marriott Hotel downtown, 700 Grand Ave., where the band Kelly’s Clan will play and members of the Foy School of Irish Dance will perform. Parade trophies will be awarded and raffle winners will be announced.
