Try to catch a hot dog at an Iowa Cubs game. Bring a glove, your appetite and the willingness to wrestle a foil-wrapped hot dog shot out of a cannon away from a small child when you plan a trip to Principal Park. If you don't win a prize from the between-innings hot dog launcher, order the Iowa Oaks beer (created by Court Avenue Brewing Co.), or try to make it on the kiss cam. (Preferably with a member of your party.)
Eat a tenderloin from Smitty's. You aren't a true Iowan unless you've devoured a breaded pork tenderloin larger than your face. Smitty's is a good place to start, and is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 1401 S.W. Army Post Road. A classic large King Tenderloin is $6.50.
