I have never been so disappointed in food service ever!!! I am a night shift nurse at a local hospital that ordered delivery pizza at 1:30am. At 2:30am we called and were told that they would call their driver and see where he was. At 3:00 we were told the were not able to get a hold of the driver yet, and the at 3:15 we were told the driver didn’t know were that address was so they were not going to bring our pizza. When asked to speak with a manager they said there wasn’t one until Monday. When asked for the name of the person I was speaking with they said no, I’m not giving it to you…. I will be speaking with their manager Monday!! This is not the first time they have delivered here,(hard to believe they couldn’t find it) but it will be the last!!
Richjod69 commented on Lazerfest 2013 review blog
You didn't comment on how Lazerfest got so screwed up this year with the stages being so far apart. It was especially bad for those of us that purchased the expensive VIP tickets as we were unable to see or if the wind blew to hard, even hear the far away second stage. So VIP ticket holders DID NOT get to see half of the bands, DID NOT have easy access to their private bathrooms (had to go 25 yards in the opposite direction away from the VIP area), DID NOT have a VIP entrance to easily get into the venue, and lets not forget the steak dinner which was almost exactly like the Hyvee $7.00 Thursday night steak dinner that is offered through the stores kitchen. Thanks Lazer for working so hard to destroy what was last year a great event.

Went to the Drake location tonight for Mother's Day dinner 2013, and was not let down. I had the single dinner with brisket/mac & cheese/mashed potatoes. My dad had a turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries which were not very warm. My son had a grilled cheese which was a cold cheese sandwich. The service is mediocre at best but man, the brisket/meat/BBQ is sooooo delicious! My suggestion is that they get better servers, make sure everything is HOT when it comes to the table, and offer some sort of description of the BBQ sauces on the table.

Horrible customer service. The entire bar staff are too busy chatting with their friends.. And when inquired on why it took them so long to get to me, they were very rude and unpleasant. I will not be returning!
sydspink wrote about El Patio Mexican Restaurant
When I left El Patio this evening, the owner proudly told me the governor comes to his restaurant weekly. Hard to believe anyone would frequent this place on a regular basis. Everything started off well, with the cozy atmosphere promising a wonderful experience. Things quickly turned. It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive, and when it did, the skimpy portions were disappointing but not a deal breaker. No, that came a moment later. My food, along with two of my dinner companions, was exceptionally overcooked. The beans were dry, devoid of flavor, and while the rice was good, the enchiladas were singed onto the plate. The owner was polite when we complained, offering to give us 50% off. While we accepted the offer and appreciated his concern and apology, his reason for the disaster was a hard to comprehend: he was busy "up front" and lost track of the baking time. This begs a simple question: if he knew the food was overcooked, why serve it to a customer? I exited the front door, wondering if the governor has had similar experiences at El patio. Probably not.

Stopped by for lunch after reading the register review (Out-Lunch-Mexican-staples-Amigos). They were right! Excellent food (I learned that the chips are homemade and the dips are made fresh daily!), good size portions, and very, very good prices. The staff is fantastic. Great hospitality! You gotta Give it a try!!
Bethalinski wrote about Bethel Mission
Since 1915 Hope Ministries has been helping the homeless but a lot has changed since the days of yore in this modern world of ‘keep my job at all costs’. Jeff M. Scott of Altoona, IA Intake Coordinator at Bethel Mission on 6th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50314 is a sparkling example of just that. He is an alleged born again Christian who values do not meet his actions. Truly one who imposes his will on the poor and suffering via one cross look and your are right back out on the street. This seems to contradict all that HM’s has done over the years and gives the Bethel Mission a preverbal black eye, bad name and reputation. Since it is a private institution there are no gatekeepers or Ombudsman that can interfere with any of the staff’s actions lead by the character defect filled person mentioned above. How impossible is it to stay dry but let your guard down in improve ones usefulness to God and your fellow man. 12 step programs are geared to self-improve over time – not get worse and this is what happens when ones does not work the steps; any al-non person will tell you they are truly miserable on the inside. Clients on the inside are afraid to speak, no electronic devices allowed by order of Jeff M. Scott and there is a countless, huge number of homeless people who will not defend themselves because of the fear of being tossed out if anyone dare oppose him; I was there and seen this happen on a daily basis, for over one month the time period of 3/13/13-4/18/13. The service was horrible. The staff was RUDE. I tried this place on for dinner, lunch and for a to-go order and ALL of it was horrible. I love local places and LOVE to support them but I will never step foot in this horrible place. I hope you go under.

Best value by far since they except any coupon without being sticklers on expiration dates. We love the service here especially in this area. It feels like they take a lot of pride in the food they make and the quality they serve you. It's the place were kids are welcomed and they seem to really help support the high school sports teams by displaying posters and showing their support. Love this place.
Mnb4ever wrote about El Siete Mares
The food here is usually good at times when the kitchen isn't backed up. However we went mid afternoon on a Friday and it was not busy. In fact our server had a friend at the bar she was drinking/texting with. Had to go asking for menus, refills ect. Then when ordering carnitas had to point at menu since she insisted they didn't have that. The margaritas were the worst. Tastes like the warm premixed bottle collecting dust on the counter. They also have a picture of Templeton Rye on menu, an Iowa staple. But beware of ordering mixed drinks since the don't forwarn you of the charges. One glass x $8.99 a shot x two per rocks glass comes to almost a twenty dollar drink. Oh yeah, same for the margaritas. For the neighborhood it's in I recommend the liqueur store next door for a drink. The Mexican grocery store w/ taco trailer in parking lot is quick and tastier. Better deal and service there or even McDonalds as you pull in. Beware of the scams.

I liked Orlando's better when it was that TEENSIE place at 39th(?) & University. And actually, that same location was once Madonia's bike shop. Ironic, huh!
kalamazooprinting wrote about Cactus Bob's Barbecue Corral
Apparently "competition-style" bbq at Cactus Bob's equates to cooking the ribs in advance, keeping them in the cooler and microwaving to order. First set of ribs cold in the middle and hot around the edges. Second set of microwaved ribs staff overcompensates with time in microwave--too hot to touch with my fingers and exterior burnt and too dry to chew / eat. Asked for a refund, told it's store policy not to issue a refund--gift card instead. Too bad I'm from out of town, and wouldn't set foot back in this place if I had too. I'll definitely be contesting this charge on my credit card.

When we arrived we were excited to try the food. It was a bar atmosphere which is fine. While waiting for food other patrons were being really loud for quite a while. Screaming and hollering. We asked nicely for them to quiet down a little as we were getting headaches. They were nothing but rude and staff did nothing to help. If anything after we said something staff became rude to us siding with their regulars. Food was very greasy mediocre to average at best. Not a family friendly atmosphere and horrible service. They care more about regulars than wanting to get new customers.
FormerResident wrote about Bethel Mission
I am a former resident of the Bethel Mission located at 1310 6th Ave in Des Moines, IA.. Due to the work of the residents there, it is a fairly clean place. The showers are hot (most of the time), and the food is decent, inspite of the evidence of roaches found roaming around the kitchen and even one at least one occasion a bug being found in the food of a man seated next to me during one of the evening (dinner) meals that was served. A report was filed by myself with the local Health Department, and according to my sources there (residents still staying at the Mission), a visit was given where the Health Department made their awareness of the problem made known to Jeff Scott (Director of Intake Services) as well as the Kitchen Manager, whose only his first name is known to me (Pat). What I want to criticize the Bethel Mission is for the poor work ethic of their staff members.. This mainly is in regards to Jeff Scott, but also other staff members who profess to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, but in action and attitude they are clearly giving Christianity a bad name. Jeff Scott is a man who I believe abuses his position of authority to terrorize both the residents and the men who have joined the Missions "STEP" program, now referred to as simply "The Program". I personally met more men in and out of the shelter who profess they would never become a Christian if being a christian means you hold out the loving hand of support with blackmail like conditions, threatening to kick a person out over even the slightest rule violation or if they simply act/think in a way that Staff does not agree with. Hope Ministries would go a long way to improving the standard and image of the Bethel Mission if Mr. Jeff Scott was removed or in the very least given a refresher course in what the Mission runs under, that being the Love and Guidance of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Mr. Scott, a former addict and homeless person, seems to have forgotten where he came from and just who is responsible for his current standing, blessings, and overall position of authority..that being the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father. More harm has been done to the image and name of Christ by this one mans blatant disregard for even the most basic of Christian principles. He has developed what can only be called a "God Complex". I am myself a Christian since 1993, and I have never seen a man who was given so much behave in a way that contradicts the very Faith he claims to support. The other staff members only maintain a Christian attitude and appearance of caring when they are present in Chapel during which outside Church members come to visit for the nightly Chapel Services. Outside of chapel nearly all of them appear cold, distant and seemingly uncaring when it comes to the needs of the residents there. Ask the men there and you will see I tell the truth. I am not here to slander, but shed light on what really happens so people who can make changes will hopefully do so.

Any list that is talking about places to watch the Hawkeyes that does not include the Front Row in Windsor Heights is a horrible list. There are only two true Hawkeye bars in the metro and those are the Front Row and the Longest Yard.

Waited for an hour to get an order of wings that never did come. Waitress never even came back by the table to see how we were on beer. When I called the next day to complain to management I wasn't even really offered so much as an apology. She said that an hour wasn't an unreasonable amount of time to wait if they were busy. That's understandable and I do get that don't get me wrong. But, they were not by any means busy. My husband and myself probably made a total of 10 customers 15 tops and there were only 2 other tables eating. By the time we walked out the other 2 tables had gotten their food and been long done and 1 of the tables had even already left. Very disappointing. I don't care how good your wings are or what kind of deal you may think you have. When your service and your management are both crap you will not succeed like that for very long. I will not be going back any time soon that's for sure.
