The first trailer for Zero Dark Thirty is out. That's the movie chronicling the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow with screenplay by Mark Boal, both of whom worked on The Hurt Locker, the movie is set to open Dec. 19.

Zero Dark Thirty has drawn political fire with critics questioning the filmmakers' access to any classified documents.

Because the original script was completed before bin Laden's death in May 2011, Bigelow and Boal had to scramble and regroup once the news broke -- just before production was set to begin.

"The minute we heard the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed, what we had been working on became history," Bigelow says to Entertainment Weekly via email. "As interesting a story as that would have been to tell, the news re-directed our entire efforts. It changed the movie idea forever."

Boal explains to EW that he tossed out the original script and started from scratch. "But a lot of the homework I'd done for the first script and a lot of the contacts I made, carried over."
