PARK CITY, Utah - The rousing documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, about the world of backup singers in popular music, was the first film to be snatched up by a distributor at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
The Weinstein Co. bought the North American rights to the work, which premiered Thursday night to a standing ovation at the Eccles Theater. The showing also included several impromptu performances from three of the singers featured in this film.
Twenty, directed by Morgan Neville, profiles six singers who perform in the shadows of stars such as Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and Bette Midler.
The film is expected to be released in theaters this summer.
Festivalgoers are awaiting still another concert featuring Darlene Love on Sunday.
