On the stage… MTV made Pauly Shore, first as a host and a lover of all things spring break, and then as the lead of his own cable show, “Totally Pauly.” In 1991, his comedy album “The Future of America” connected with slackers and stoners.
On the big screen… Critically trashed, but undeniably popular, Shore’s lazy 1992 comedy “Encino Man” allowed the comedian to leverage his MTV fan base into a short-lived movie career. “Encino Man” begat “Son in Law,” and then “Jury Duty,” "In the Army Now" [pictured] and “Bio-Dome.” As the crowds slowly evaporated, he tried to make a comeback with the 1997 TV show “Pauly” – which debuted to such low ratings that it was cancelled after only one episode.
