What's on screen: Technically, the Overlook Hotel isn’t a house. But, it is where the Torrance family resides. Besides, we couldn’t really skip over this horror classic directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on the novel by Stephen King. Father and recovering abusive alcoholic Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) starts to lose his mind and is convinced by the former caretaker (who happens to be dead) to follow in his footsteps and kill off his wife and child. They should’ve known: ghostly twin sisters, a hedgerow maze and spirits happy to lock you in the freezer all make this someplace you never want to stay, even for one night.
