"Kick-Ass" (April 16)
What it is: A movie adaptation of Mark Millar’s cult comic book hit about average people who decide to become superheroes. The cast includes Nicolas Cage, “Superbad’s” Christopher Mintz-Plasse and newcomer Aaron Johnson, and the director is Matthew Vaughn (“Stardust”).
Why you should care: An independent production, “Kick-Ass” didn’t even have a distributor until preview footage at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con sent fanboy buzz through the roof. Now it’s one of the most talked about movies online, and those in the know have already anointed pre-teen vigilante Hit Girl (played by “(500) Days of Summer” co-star Chloë Moretz) the breakout character of the year.
