Not much is known yet about Anderson's post-WWII era drama that may or may not have parallels to the birth of Scientology. Whether or not Hoffman plays a L. Ron Hubbard-esque figure has been cause for pre-release controversy, with some expecting the film's fictional religious organization "The Cause" to offer an examination (or criticism) of the controversial religion. Whatever the case, any film from Anderson is an event for serious movie lovers and the Oscar-caliber cast just sweetens the deal.
