“Major League” (1989)
The sport: Baseball
The underdogs: A conniving former showgirl (Margaret Whitton) inherits the Cleveland Indians from her late husband and attempts to stack the team with washed-up and never-were players so she can move the franchise to Miami.
The outcome: All those losers—including injured catcher Jake Taylor (Tom Berenger), ex-con pitcher Ricky Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) and prima donna third baseman Roger Dorn (Corbin Bernsen)—turn the team into winners and defeat the rival New York Yankees for the division championship.
