"Scott Pilgrim vs the World"
What they brought: Everything they could. Director Edgar Wright ("Hot Fuzz") humorously interrogated "Pilgrim" creator Bryan Lee O'Malley and stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Jason Schwartzman, Ellen Wong, Anna Kendrick, Brandon Routh, Mark Webber, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Mae Whitman and Satya Bhabha. The entire panel was peppered with generous film clips and then Wright announced that the whole movie would screen for free at a local theater three nights in a row.
Buzz-meter ranking: 9. Add on a special "Scott Pilgrim Experience" event at a nearby hotel where fans could meet cast members, and it's hard to imagine a studio doing anything more to promote a movie. It worked splendidly, making "Pilgrim" one of the event's most talked about titles. The only catch? The movie itself. Visually dazzling but emotionally...underdeveloped...it's an ambitious yet severely flawed piece of work. More on that closer to the movie's opening...
