'The Voice': Reality competition program
Score one for The Voice. The second season of the NBC singing competition received an Emmy nomination for best reality competition, while genre competitors such as American Idol and The X Factor did not.
“We’re very humbly excited by (the nomination), especially in a category that’s so competitive,” host Carson Daly said.
He said the show has been able to create a distinct identity with such elements as blind auditions and a coaching panel that includes Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
“The differential point between us and any of these other shows is our coaches. We have four of the biggest names in music, currently,” Daly said. “They formed a super-group and use all their assets to try to help. It is very different from other shows.”
Daly declined to take a shot at other singing competitions. “It’s a very difficult category. It probably could have been any show (getting nominated), but we’re glad it was us." -- Keveney
