From Bond to Bourne, movie audiences expect action heroes to have a certain look about them. An attitude, a particular swagger. Usually macho, tough, chiseled, sly, sarcastic.
Then again, every once in a while, there’s a hero who defies the conventional clichés. Like in “RED,” opening Oct. 15, which places badass regular Bruce Willis in the thick of the action alongside two surprising allies: John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. Not exactly your standard B-movie bullets-and-explosions types.
Nevertheless, the most unexpected action heroes are often some of the most effective—and most popular. Take a look at some of the most unlikely action heroes of all time.
