Unlucky: Paul Walker
Handsome but lacking any discernible intelligence as a performer, Walker is ideal as one of the two non-automotive anchors of the surprisingly durable car-fetish “Fast and the Furious” franchise [pictured left]. However, whereas co-lead Vin Diesel possesses a certain heft and mystique that has sparked a relatively fruitful career outside of the “Fast” flicks, Walker serves as the definition of a “what you see is what you get” actor.
Since “what you see” in this case is a generic Everydude more adept at stunts than line readings, he has flailed in most attempts to escape the realm of pimped-out rides. Even the rare gem in his filmography, like the surreal urban fairy tale “Running Scared” [pictured right], often works in spite of his presence rather than because of it. For every viewer who finds Walker dreamy, there seem to be a dozen who believe he comes off as an insufferable douchebag.
