What lies at the bottom of the rabbit hole?
By Rebecca Swanner, Special to Metromix
In 1862, Charles Dodgson, then a student at Christ Church College in Oxford, would take the dean’s daughter Alice Liddell out on canoe trips down the Thames. Along the way, he’d tell her and her two sisters stories to pass the time. One was a story about a girl exploring a strange, unknown world. Alice loved the story, and, after much pleading, he wrote it down under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll and titled it "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland."
Over the years, the classic has been interpreted and reinterpreted in dozens of ways, most recently with the Syfy Channel reimagining the tale for a four-hour special. With Tim Burton's version, starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, opening March 5, it's a good time to take a look back at 10 of the strangest versions of the beloved tale.
