Andrea Doubleday, 24, is the co-host of Open Circus, 9 p.m. Thursdays in Java Joe’s Fourth Street Theater, 214 Fourth St.
Q: How did you get involved with Open Circus?
I knew one of the other hosts back when it was at the Locust (Street) location and I would go to support him. I loved it, it’s such a fun open mic with so many things going on. I started coming back when it went to Java Joe’s. The previous host had to move out of state, and I decided it would be a fun thing to do, so I jumped in when she left.
Q: What’s the most interesting act you’ve seen?
I don’t remember her name, but it was a little 9-year-old girl who went up with a ukulele and sang a song. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and she was very talented too. She knew what she was doing.
Q: Do you have any advice for newbies?
Just come once and sit in the audience and see how much fun all the performers are having. It’s such a laid-back atmosphere, which makes it the perfect place to perform for the first time. Everyone embraces everyone else with open arms. No matter what you’re doing, someone else there will be doing it too.
