Chris Lyng, 26, is the bassist for Mumford’s. The band performs during the Iowa City Song Project Show at 8 p.m. Thursday at Vaudeville Mews, 212 Fourth St.
Q: How often do you make it over to Iowa City for a show?
Fairly regularly, we play a good number of shows there. Most of the guys from Mission Creek (Festival) live there and it’s always fun to hang out with them. So probably once a month or so. Last year Mumford’s played with Oberhofer at Mission Creek and it was really awesome.
Q: Mission Creek has been a big influence on the Maximum Ames Music Festival (which Lyng co-founded). Is there an act you’re most looking forward to seeing this year?
I’m really excited that we get to open for Mucca Pazza, which I think will be a really sweet show at the Englert. As far as shows I’m just going to see, I think Frank Fairfield is going to be sweet. It’s such an awesome lineup this year.
Q: Are you working on Maximum Ames 2013 yet?
Oh, definitely. We’re working on booking right now and finding new partners to work with. Planning is in full swing for sure. We got a little bit of a jump start on last year. We started in January of last year, but we had our first planning meeting for 2013 the day after the 2012 festival.
