Joel Nott, 40, is the drummer for Grubby Ernie, performing at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Gas Lamp, 1501 Grand Ave.
Q: It’s been almost 12 years since the last time Grubby Ernie played a show. What caused the break?
Brad (Thoen, singer/guitarist) moved to Minneapolis back in 2000. We did some Misfits tribute shows for a few years after that, but then Matt McClurg (guitarist) moved to Arizona and Yuta (Naganuma, bassist) moved to Des Moines and I stayed in Ames. Yuta and Matt and I stayed active until I had a few kids, and Brad is in a band in Minneapolis, The Ghettos Burning.
Q: What prompted the reunion?
Kevan Murphy from Live LIVE Music approached me at The Aggrolites show about getting the band back together. He was a super fan from way back. I forwarded the guys an email from him and then we started to nail down a date.
Q: Will Grubby Ernie fans have to wait another 12 years for the next reunion?
I’m not sure how that will go, we’ll see. We have a hard time remembering our songs now, I don’t know what it will be like after another 12 years.
