Ryan “Weeter” Farrell, 38, is the singer/guitarist for Dresden Style, performing at 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Gas Lamp, 1501 Grand Ave.
Q: How did you get started playing music?
Basically air guitaring until my parents finally bought me a guitar at 15. We were living in Texas and I didn’t know anyone down there because we moved around a lot. I didn’t play in a band until my senior year of high school. We did one show at some Johnston High School event. I’ve been in bands off and on ever since.
Q: What kind of guitar do you play?
My main guitar right now is a cheap, ‘70s SG copy made by Ampeg. They’re normally known for bass amps, but they made a few guitars and I found one for a small dollar amount in a pawnshop. It sounds kind of like it’s broken. I also play a late ‘70s Peavey T60, except it has a strange neck someone put on it along the way.
Q: You work part-time at ZZZ Records. What’s your vinyl collection like?
I have around 1,700 records. I take turns pulling out 50 to 100 records at a time, listen to them in full and then put them away and pull out more. That way I can go through my stuff in sections, revisiting things.
