Jessica Howe, 26, is co-vocalist of Time Well Wasted. They perform 6 p.m.-midnight daily Aug. 9-19 in the margarita tent at the Iowa State Fair.
Q: You’ll be performing for 66 hours over eleven days. Where did the idea come from and do you have enough material to play that long?
Sarah (Nemitz, co-vocalist) and I called up the owner of the margarita tent and said that we really wanted to play. He offered us a set from noon to 4 p.m. or a really long one. We went with the long one. We have thousands of songs. We sing to pre-recorded music, which allows us to sing to any genre. People call us human jukeboxes.
Q: How did the two of you start performing together?
Sarah and I have known each other for probably 15 years. Both of us have run karaoke nights and have sung with groups. We decided to hook up and do something together. We’ve been friends so long that something just clicked.
Q: You’re going to be pretty busy during the fair. What will you be doing when you’re not performing?
I camp there during the fair, which is my favorite part about it. I love all the food and listening to other music. I always go see Haywire at Jalapeno Pete’s. We’re hoping Miranda Lambert will stop at our tent. We started a campaign on Facebook and emailed her fan club trying to make it happen. Her bus stops right by our tent. We’re hoping she stops in, says “hi” and has a Mirandarita with us.
