The story: Goodbye Kai members Bryan Foster, Nick McClure and Derek Loneman started performing in seventh grade, playing school talent shows. For years they just messed around, covering AC/DC and other bands they and their friends enjoyed. Now, for more than the last year, the band has been working on original material.
"We had the desire to show people a different side," McClure said. "We wanted to be able to take pride in our own kind of stuff, rather than other people's."
Earlier this year the members of Goodbye Kai got a chance to open for one of their favorite bands, The Dangerous Summer. "We all had the time of our lives," McClure said. "It was amazing, very sweet."
The group has compiled 14 songs of original material and hopes to begin recording sometime in the not-too-distant future.
Saying goodbye: The band's name comes from the group's former guitar player, Kai. He was moving to Florida, and while saying goodbye, members of the band noticed that "Goodbye Kai" sounded kind of catchy.
