80/35 Play-In voting starts Monday

The Des Moines Music Coalition has announced semi-finalists for the 80/35 Play-In. Eight bands will be playing live on Iowa Public Radio's Studio One show at 7:30 p.m. nightly starting Monday.

The schedule is:

·         Monday, April 30 — Ladysoal

·         Tuesday, May 1 — Emperors Club

·         Wednesday, May 2 — The White Elephant

·         Thursday, May 3 — The Beat Strings

·         Monday, May 7 — Seedlings

·         Tuesday, May 8 — The Wire Frames

·         Wednesday, May 9 — Holy White Hounds

·         Thursday, May 10 — Love Songs for Lonely Monsters

Listeners will be able to vote online and the top three acts will be announced on May 31 and will play at a June 21 event at a TBA venue in Des Moines.

Speaking of The Seedlings, they'll play the Vaudeville Mews on May 3 with The River Monks, Kansas City singer-songwriter Sara Swenson and the Utah band Desert Noises. Tickets are $5.

And on Monday Portland band The Lower 48 play the Mews with Zachary Harper opening. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are $6.

The band is originally from Minneapolis, but moved to Portland a few years back. The Lower 48 recently released a new album, "Where All Maps End."
